A wolf pack is a collective where social structure is very important. The wolf pack collaborates in hunting for food, raising cubs and when they relocate, they do so in a straight line, to save as much energy as possible. Everything is under a strict hierarchy of dominance. This order may be challenged by up-and-comers and lead to occasional fights. The context I work with is often the collective, like with the wolf pack. I’m interested in the role of the individual in such social structures. The collective can sometimes be limiting and require adjustments and so the expressionistic style I work with is like a liberation from that.I work deliberately with imperfections. I draw recklessly out of line, I let the canvas get dirty. I’ve scraped off rabbit glue with sandpaper and if the canvas get torn, as you can see on the bottom of the Blue Wolf I have mended the tore with a red thread, so that you can really see the scar on the wolves leg. I like when it’s raw, human and vulnerable, the opposite of technical perfection and AI.
